
1899 - An area of 520 acres with a population of 433 was incorporated as the Village of Lomira. 1916 - Lomira High School had its first graduating class. The Fire Engine House now referred to as the Village Hall was moved and then extensively remodeled. During this time the Board of Trustees met in Central Hotel Hall. 1928 - A disastrous fire destroyed all the stock and damaged the machinery and building of the Lomira Furniture Mfg. Co., that the enterprise was then abandoned. 38 men were left unemployed. 1900 - Village voting polls were moved from the Ludwig Zeidler home to the Fire Engine House. 1917 - Liberty Bonds were bought to help win World War I, and local young men left home to serve their country. 1929 - A heavy snowstorm closed in on the village. The big blizzard halted all traffic, so our Central Hotel had tourists stranded there for several days. 1901 - John Brinkman was paid $27.00 for painting the Fire Engine House. Ordinance No. 8 providing a rule for taxing dogs was adopted. 1918 - Beginning with this year, until the 1960's, our Village had a "Clean-up Week" every year in the month of May. Robert Kietzer bought the Furniture Store on North Water Street from Louis Westphal. This business has been in the Kietzer family ever since. 1930 - The Christmas Eve Tragedy - when six local people were killed in a train - car collision at the Church Street railroad crossing. 1902 - Motion passed by Village Board to hold all future monthly meetings in the Fire Engine House. 1919 - Galloway-West Pasteurizing Plant opened on the site located north of the Star Brewing Company. 1931 - From The Lomira Review of Dec. 9, The Lomira Legionnaires will play the Calumet Clippers at Heimerman's Hall Saturday evening. A good game is assured. 1903 - The first issue of The Lomira Review was published, editor C.L. Parduhn. 1919 - William Koepsell purchased the August Breitengross Drug Store on Railroad Avenue, known as the Asenbauer building 1932 - Jacob J. Steiner, only living Civil War veteran of Lomira celebrated his 89th birthday on February 17. Four members representing the Lomira Legion Post surprised Mr. Steiner with a beautiful bouquet of flowers. 1904 - St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church was built. A fire completely destroyed the Peter Wolf business on the corner of Main St. and Pleasant Hill Avenue. 1920 - Lomira Furniture Mfg. Co. was organized by local men and some outside assistance. A brick building was erected north of the Lumberyard just west of the railroad tracks. 1933 - Lomira receives $6,400 in CWA funds. Three new cisterns each holding approximately 26,000 gallons of water will be installed for additional fire protection. 1906 - Dr. J.W. Ehmer of Theresa took over the medical practice of Dr. Driesel. Public Property Committee was instructed to buy a U.S. flag suitable for Village purposes. 1921 - The American Legion Post 347 was organized and named the "George Bintzler Post" in memory of a World War 1 veteran who lost his life. 1934 - Since the Lomira Bank was forced to close, the Brownsville State Bank qualified as a public depositor by the Village Board resolution, which was designated to maintain and operate a receiving and disbursing office at Lomira. 1907 - August Jagow completed his first year as appointed steward of the Fire Engine House and received $25.00, which remained his annual pay for many years. The Village of Lomira purchased six rubber fire coats for the Lomira Fire Company. 1922 - The concreting of Highway 15 between Theresa and Lomira was completed, and finished a 15 mile strech was concrete highway in Dodge County. 1935 - The village Board moved that the Lomira Concert Band be allowed $225 for the 1935 season's concerts. 1908 - Cement sidewalks were now beginning to be built instead of the oak board ones. 1923 - The first Traffic Police Officer, Hugo Heller, was appointed to patrol our village with his own motorcycle. 1936 - In this year, the overhead bridge was built on Church Street over the Soo Line railroad tracks. 1909 - For a fee, lighting for the Village streets was provided for by private citizens. 1924 - Resolution adopted by the Village trustees ordered that a tax rate of two mills on the dollar be charged on all real estate and personal property assessed within the Village. 1937 - Serwe Implement, Inc. was established. 1910 - Pleasant Hill Avenue and Church Street were graded and covered with crushed stone. 1925 - E.G. Schultz succeeded Ed Friedrich as Village Clerk. 1938 - Lomira Women's Club was organized. The 105 ft. tall Lomira Water Tower was erected at a cost of $8,180. It has a capacity of 55,000 gallons. 1911 - A franchise was granted to Lomira Electric Light and Power Company to build, operate and maintain an electric light plant. 1926 - Permanent Street Improvemnt project was carried out, aided with help from the County. The route starting on Main Street at Highway 15 then running east ot Water Street then south on Water Steet to Grove Street then east on Grove Street to Ashford Avenue to Highway 67 was made a concrete pavement. 1939 - Well No. 1 was drilled and the Pump House was built. The Sewer Treatment plant was built and the water and sewer mains laid into most of the Village Street. 1912 - Speed limit in the Village was set at twelve miles an hour for automobiles and motorcycles. At Christmas, a Scarlet Fever epidemic hit out village. Seven homes were fumigated because of deaths. 1927 - A safe was purchased for the Village Hall for keeping valuable papers and records. 1940 - The Roman Sterr's bought the Nick Hesprich home on Main St. 1913 - The Lomira School was built, a square two-story red brick building on the old school hill over-looking the village. 1941 - The William Koepsells purchased the John Heimerman's Building and remodeled it into a spacious and pleasant drug store. 1914 - Lomira Free High School was established. The area known as "Hankwitz Addition" was accepted 1915 - William Basler of Allenton moved his family and household goods into the former School house on Church Street
